Program overview

LewisGale Hospital Montgomery is a 146-bed, general acute-care facility delivering comprehensive healthcare. The Family Medicine Residency Program at LewisGale Hospital Montgomery is sponsored by HCA Healthcare LewisGale Hospital Montgomery / VCOM. HCA Healthcare is the nation's leading provider of quality, patient-centered care. We are also the leader in graduate medical education, all brought together by a single mission: Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.

Our residency program cultivates a strong relationship with LewisGale Physicians Family Medicine (LGPFM), our continuity of care clinic and an academic relationship with Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM). Our continuity clinic provides comprehensive care to a diverse community of patients of all ages. As a resident, your schedule in the clinic will increase as you progress through the program and undoubtedly prepare you for a career in Family Medicine. Residents will have the opportunity to rotate in sports medicine and osteopathic manipulation and musculoskeletal (ONMM3) procedures with VCOM. Upper-level residents are given the opportunity to mentor and teach VCOM's third and fourth-year medical students. Each year, the program also auditions medical students from around the country who would be interested in filling one of the six available slots.

As a resident, you will participate in and present research and quality improvement projects, at National or State conferences. Additionally, you will be an active participant in Research Days at different residency programs throughout the year. Dr. Esther Piervil is a full-time non-physician faculty member who assists with research projects at all stage of development. Interns are encouraged to have a concept for research by January 1st of their 1st year. All residents are required to do a research/quality improvement project in their senior year in order to graduate.

Through strong partnerships we are able to provide residents a HIPPA compliant cell phone and laptop to ensure efficient workflows. We place a high priority on our commitments to quality measures and patient safety. At LewisGale Hospital Montgomery, we are proud of our training program, and we encourage excellence in clinical training as well as the growth and development of each resident. Our commitment to our resident's education is clear in the vigorous didactic, lecture, and board review curriculum that are led by the faculty and program director.

As you search for the next step in your career, we welcome you to spend some time with our family of residents.
