HCA Virginia showed up for communities across the state during its statewide community service month. Across HCA Virginia’s 14 hospitals, nearly 450 colleagues volunteered approximately 1,500 hours at 116 community partner organizations during the second annual We Show Up for Our Communities service month.

Demonstrating an exceptional commitment to community service, volunteers within HCA Virginia surpassed the annual goal of 1,000 hours, achieving a 76% increase compared to last year. This expanded impact was made possible by the dedicated efforts of 450 individuals, a 124% rise in volunteer participation.

Volunteer events included assisting local food banks, organizing American Red Cross blood drives, participating in a Habitat for Humanity home build, a Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) beautification project, diaper drives and a James River cleanup with over 50 events throughout the Commonwealth.

Henrico Doctors’ Hospital logged the most volunteer hours in Virginia with 265.

“Giving back to the communities we serve is at the heart of our mission,” said Dr. William Lunn, president of HCA Healthcare Capital Division. “HCA Virginia colleagues volunteer throughout the year, but this focused campaign each April really highlights the impact that we can make by partnering with our neighbors to contribute to our collective wellbeing.”

Colleagues were encouraged to log their volunteer time. For every 10 hours of service recorded, they received a $200 Care Card, a virtual gift card, that was donated to any public charity or school of their choice. Each colleague can earn up to $1,000 worth of Care Cards during the calendar year. Eligible volunteer hours are also accepted for colleagues who are actively serving as board members for nonprofit organizations. The We Show Up for Our Communities service month generated nearly $9,000 in grants.
