The latest in joint surgery technology offered by LewisGale Hospital Montgomery
Patients in need of joint replacement or reconstruction surgery can now benefit from the most advanced technology available at LewisGale Hospital Montgomery, part of HCA Virginia.
The hospital was the first in Southwest Virginia to implement the Stryker Mako 4 robotic surgical system, which helps improve patient outcomes, reduce recovery time and lower the cost of care.
The surgical system has demonstrated enhanced outcomes for total hip, total knee and partial knee patients compared to manual surgery and enables surgeons to virtually modify the surgical plan during an operation.
The Montgomery team was able to perform its first procedure with the system over the summer and has since performed more than 100 surgeries.
The investment reflects HCA Virginia’s ongoing commitment to leveraging emerging technology to provide exceptional results for our patients.
“The idea of the robot is precision and accuracy, so one of the ways it ensures a higher quality of patient care is that it has protective boundaries around bones and tissues you want to guard against during surgery,” said Dr. Bruce Byrd, orthopedic surgeon. “Following surgery, patients are likely to experience significantly less pain than non-robotic surgery patients and a faster recovery window.”
