Laura Gayton, CNM, IBCLC, is a certified nurse-midwife with LewisGale Physicians – Nurse-Midwives in Salem, Virginia.

Laura has a background in both biology and nursing. She got her masters degree in nurse-midwifery at Oregon Health & Science University as a National Health Service Corp Scholar. She was then honored to serve in Tuba City, Arizona, on the Navajo Reservation, also adjacent to the Hopi Reservation, and later practiced in Portland, Oregon as both a nurse-midwife and lacta

Laura is passionate about patient-centered care practiced through the midwifery model, which is based in effective communication, shared decision-making, teamwork, and evidence-based care. Laura is committed to understanding your preferences and cultural beliefs as well as your goals. She is focused on evidence-based well-woman care, contraceptive care, gynecologic care and care in pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum time, including lactation consultation.
