Cardiac rehabilitation

Cardiac rehabilitation aims to help you recover from a cardiovascular event — such as a heart attack or heart failure — or other debilitating heart condition. This recovery process usually involves physical therapy, exercise and education to rebuild and maintain your heart strength.

Heart rehabilitation (rehab) services we provide

Cardiac rehab is an essential component of proper recovery following a heart event. We understand that it can be difficult to know where to start, so let us take you down the right path towards living your life to its fullest.

Types of cardiac therapy programs

When you work with our experienced team of nurses, exercise physiologists, pharmacists and dietitians, you have access to several types of programs crafted towards helping you feel better, fast. Your unique needs are always top of mind, and, combined with home exercises, our programs are tailored to your situation. These programs include:

  • Supervised, personalized exercise sessions — You will begin a physical therapy and exercise program designed to fit your particular situation. Although aerobic exercise is emphasized, your program may also include flexibility and muscle strengthening.
  • Nutrition counseling — Combined with physical activity and good nutrition, you will work toward your healthy body weight and cholesterol level.
  • Education on stress management and risk-factor reduction — An important part of our cardiac rehab program is providing you and your family with the latest information on heart disease. Risk factor modification and educational programs are guided by your goals, needs and abilities. You can learn more about your heart and ways to reduce the potential for future complications. In time, you may return to your regular work and leisure activities.

We also offer advanced respiratory and exercise therapy if you have experienced heart disease, peripheral artery disease, heart failure or other chronic diseases.

Benefits of heart rehab

Depending on the severity of your condition, or if you have recently had cardiac surgery, cardiovascular rehabilitation can potentially prevent future events from occurring. With sessions occurring several days a week, we will not only guide you down the proper road to recovery during in-person therapy, but we also give you the tools to further your progress at home.

This type of two-pronged strategy for outpatient cardiac rehab offers numerous benefits. Heart rehab can reduce risk factors for potential future events and increase your strength and mobility. In addition, we offer continuing education on healthy living and knowing how to properly self-assess yourself if you feel you may be experiencing a cardiac event.
