Center for Early Detection and Diagnosis

Many cancers are diagnosed after patients experience symptoms and seek medical care. This often means those cancers are advanced and difficult to treat. Patients are far more likely to be cured if cancers are detected when small and early-stage. Early detection of cancer saves lives.

Henrico Doctors’ Hospital’s Center for Early Detection and Diagnosis, located within the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at Henrico Doctor’s Hospital, is designed to give patients quick access to an appropriate provider to make a diagnosis on suspicious imaging or lab results. This clinic also provides counseling and testing for patients at high risk of developing certain cancers based on their family history, use of tobacco products, or exposure to certain chemicals.

We combine compassion, skill and expertise while providing expedited access to the most advanced diagnostics, treatments, state–of–the-art technology, clinical trials and personalized patient care. The benefits of receiving care through our team include:

  • Our providers rapidly assess a patient’s individual history
  • All necessary testing and specialty referrals will be arranged
  • A comprehensive strategy for diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance will be delivered

For more information, please call (804) 289-4912.

The Center for Early Detection and Diagnosis is led by our Medical Director, Dr. Lauri Cuttino, MD. Patients and referring providers can request an appointment by calling (804) 289-4912. Our nurse practitioner, Kim Gardner, will see patients for appropriate testing and diagnostic workup.

Other team members include:

High-risk program

We offer a risk assessment tool to help determine your risk factors for certain cancers. Currently, only a small fraction of people with a higher risk of hereditary cancer complete genetic testing. This testing is important because it enables you to be proactive about your healthcare through screening and management recommendations that are tailored to you based on your risk. Additionally, HCA Virginia Health System offers a specialized High-Risk Breast Program.

Multi-cancer early detection (MCED)

MCED is a new way of screening for multiple types of cancer early through blood-based testing. The Center for Early Detection and Diagnosis offers options for people interested in undergoing MCD blood tests. *MCED is NOT currently covered by insurance
