Blacksburg, Va. — Michael Ehrat has discovered that LewisGale Hospital Montgomery’s greatest strength is its people, a quality that defines the New River Valley community it serves.
Since joining the hospital as chief executive officer, Ehrat has spent his first weeks meeting with colleagues, physicians and community leaders while learning about the hospital’s proud history and experiencing the people and places that make the New River Valley a special place to live, work and raise a family.
Ehrat brings more than 30 years of healthcare leadership experience and a proven record of advancing quality, driving strategic growth and building highly engaged teams. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his collaborative leadership style, commitment to clinical excellence and focus on strengthening relationships with physicians, colleagues and the communities his hospitals serve.
Most recently, Ehrat served as chief executive officer of HCA Florida Fawcett Hospital, where he led a multi-hospital market and guided continued growth through service line expansion, physician alignment and operational excellence.
“Michael is the kind of leader who understands that great hospitals are built on strong relationships, trust and a shared commitment to serving others,” said Kelly Oaks, chair of the LewisGale Hospital Montgomery Board of Trustees. “His depth of healthcare leadership experience and collaborative approach make him an outstanding fit for LewisGale Hospital Montgomery. We look forward to working alongside Michael as he builds on the hospital’s strong foundation.”
For Ehrat, one of the strongest impressions since joining the hospital in late May has been the culture he has experienced throughout the hospital and the pride colleagues have in caring for their community.
“I’ve been incredibly impressed by the people of LewisGale Hospital Montgomery and the New River Valley,” Ehrat said. “Everywhere I’ve gone, I’ve met colleagues who are deeply committed to serving others and who genuinely take pride in the care they provide. That culture is something very special, and it’s reflected in the outstanding experiences our patients have every day.”
Ehrat and his wife, Cindy, have four children, including a set of twins, and enjoy traveling together. Outside of work, Ehrat enjoys running, fishing and listening to history podcasts. A lifelong learner, he is also completing his Doctorate in Executive Leadership.
“Cindy and I quickly discovered what makes this region so special, from the welcoming people to the incredible mountain scenery. As an avid runner, I’ve especially enjoyed exploring the Huckleberry Trail, and every run reminds me how fortunate we are to live in such a beautiful place. We look forward to becoming part of this community, building lasting relationships and helping ensure the people of the New River Valley continue to have access to exceptional healthcare close to home.”
