Cardiovascular services we provide

As a specialized cardiac hospital in Richmond, our varied cardiovascular treatments form the foundation of your personalized care plan.

Board-certified heart care

Our board-certified cardiologists are regional leaders. We offer a number of cardiovascular services, technologies and programs to ensure you receive the highest quality treatment. This treatment begins with heart screening and imaging to gain a proper diagnosis. Once this diagnosis has been established, your doctors can begin to craft a treatment plan that will bring about the most positive outcome for your condition.

Cardiac catheterization laboratory (cath lab)

Our cardiac cath lab is open 24 hours a day and equipped with advanced monitoring and imaging equipment. Here, we offer diagnostic and interventional tools, including angioplasty, artery stenting and other procedures that remove plaque and restore blood flow to the heart.

Cardiac rehabilitation (rehab)

If you have undergone a heart surgery or a serious event such as a heart attack, ensuring that you have efficient and effective recovery is our top priority. We offer heart rehab services led by a multidisciplinary care team that includes cardiac rehabilitation therapists who will help you heal and grow strong. These therapist will work with you from diagnosis through recovery to restore your heart health and get you feeling like yourself again.

Heart and vascular surgery

Surgical intervention is often necessary for treating serious heart conditions. In these situations, our heart and vascular surgery team utilizes a hybrid operating room (OR). A hybrid OR provides the amenities of a traditional OR with the added capabilities of a diagnostic imaging suite. This allows multiple steps of a procedure to be performed at the same time, in the same room. This can result in less time in surgery, faster recovery, reduced risk of infection, a shorter stay in the hospital and, most importantly, increased safety for you.

Heart attack care

When it comes to a heart attack, the sooner you seek emergency care, the better your chances are for survival and recovery. That is why we provide expert, precise care when a heart attack strikes. In these cases, our team works together with emergency physicians to deliver prompt, effective care.

Treatment options vary based on the severity of your condition. While nonsurgical treatments include medication, lifestyle changes and cardiac rehabilitation, some heart and vascular surgery options we provide include:

  • Coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG)
  • Coronary stenting
  • Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)
  • Valve replacement

When to go to the emergency room (ER) for chest pain

Chest pain can be very unsettling. As such, it is very important to know the distinctions for when you may need to go to the emergency room.

Don't take chances with your heart

If you are experiencing squeezing chest pain or discomfort that lasts longer than a few minutes, in addition to lightheadedness, shortness of breath, cold sweat and pain that spreads to the shoulder, neck or arms, you should call 911.

Once you have been joined by emergency personnel, generally, you will be evaluated with X-rays and an electrocardiogram (EKG) to give further evidence on the seriousness and nature of the chest pain.
