Leading-edge surgical technology

Sometimes the need to undergo surgery is unavoidable. As part of our commitment to patient-focused care, our surgeons use minimally invasive procedures whenever possible, including laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery. Additionally, through HCA Virginia Health System's Virginia Institute of Robotic Surgery, we use robotic surgery to execute more procedures with greater precision and reach. The surgeons in our network have performed more than 10,000 robot-assisted procedures, including surgeries at our hospital and our sister hospitals, Parham Doctors' Hospital and Retreat Doctors' Hospital. We are able to use this technology for numerous types of surgery, including:

  • Gastrointestinal (GI) surgery
  • General surgery
  • Gynecological surgery
  • Thoracic (lung) surgery
  • Urologic surgery

In addition to increased precision and being able to access previously hard-to-reach areas with ease, minimally invasive surgery has numerous benefits. This type of surgery decreases the amount of time in surgery, shortens your hospital stay, speeds up your recovery and results in less pain, less scarring and less blood loss.

Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that allows your GI specialist to look inside your body using an instrument called an endoscope, with a fiber-optic camera attached. We offer endoscopic procedures, such as colonoscopy and bronchoscopy, as a safe and effective method to screen for diseases, obtain tissue samples and treat many GI conditions.
